Ero808
Shooting with Ero808 was a long time coming. I’ve known Erik since college and have always admired him—not just as an artist, but as a person. I’ve followed his journey from his early days as a rapper to his evolution into deep, grungy bass house, with style that resonates with me despite my usual preference for dubstep and riddim. So when I started photographing DJs, I knew I had to hit him up for a shoot. With the help of my best friend and assistant, Sophie, and my urban-exploring little sister, Leah, we scouted the perfect locations: an abandoned hospital and a forgotten church, both synchronistically emulating the gritty energy that matches both Erik & I’s aesthetic. We spent the night wandering through the ruins & debris, using a flashlight as an impromptu spotlight, capturing some of my favorite shots to date. We couldn’t get inside the hospital, but the exteriors alone were a dream to shoot, and the church? Let’s just say entry wasn’t an issue. Maybe I shouldn’t be admitting to that, but some stories are too good not to tell. The end result was everything we hoped for—moody, raw, and completely unforgettable.
