Ethereal, Infernal

2023
Sometimes, the chemistry between model and photographer is so strong that everything else fades away. Few models get me lost in the lens the way Mariah does, as our ideas flow together so naturally that it’s almost unspoken. Being the type of photographer known for her directorial nature, Mariah is always a breath of fresh air wherein I can relinquish control and let her do her thing. Getting to shoot her twice in one day allowed us to explore two completely opposing yet equally captivating vibes. The first shoot took place in a sun-drenched field, where Mariah embodied a wood elf, gracefully intertwined with the tall grass and exuding an ethereal, natural beauty. It was unfortunate that we didn’t get to shoot longer, but the bugs were eating us both alive and we regrettably had to wrap it up sooner than I had hoped. Luckily, with her trademark professionalism and ambitious modeling style, we thankfully got a handful of shots to die for. Later, we pivoted to a much darker concept, setting up a black backdrop and dramatic lighting in my apartment that highlighted her haunting, demonic makeup, transforming her into a fierce and otherworldly dark elf. Both shoots went as they usually do- perfectly- and resulted in some of my favorite photos. This duality of light and shadow not only stretched the boundaries of my creativity but also showcased Mariah’s incredible versatility as a model, resulting in one of my favorite shoot days to date.
