High Maintenance
was inspired by the idea of a luxurious woman indulging in a solo night in, surrounded by the finer things in life, joint in hand. Marijuana users are often stereotyped as anything but high-class individuals, and with this shoot, I wanted to challenge that perception, exploring the duality of elegance and rebellion, capturing the essence of someone with expensive taste embracing her grungy, unapologetic edge. With the help of my incredible friend and model, Rileigh, we secured a stunning penthouse that perfectly set the tone for the shoot. From there, it was all hands on deck as friends pitched in, lending designer pieces to create the opulent aesthetic I envisioned. Every detail, from the styling to the setting, came together to embody the carefree glamour of a high-end woman enjoying her own company, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.
One of the highlights of this shoot was the recognition it received from Blazy Susan, one of the cannabis brands featured and tagged in the photos. They saw the images, loved the creative direction, and reached out to request the photos. As a thank-you, they sent me a generous box of goodies, which was an incredibly validating moment for me as a photographer. It made me feel accomplished, seen, and assured that my work held value beyond my own vision. Their signature pink joint papers were a perfect addition to the girly, bourgeois vibe I was aiming for, tying the whole concept together with an authentic and playful touch. Moments like this remind me why I love what I do—it’s about making art that resonates and creates connections.
