Cottonmouth
I first met Noelle in a coffee shop in Denver's Highlands neighborhood, where she caught my attention with decorative pearls adorning her face for an art project. Fascinated by her bold, artistic energy, I approached her with an idea: let me create something just as striking with her as my subject. Serendipitously, we discovered a mutual connection through our friend Aidan, who eagerly joined the project which was one of the first shoots I ever did for this project. Together, we transformed my cozy studio apartment into a creative haven, using a black backdrop tucked into my closet as the stage for this experimental shoot. The result was Cottonmouth, a series of bold, avant-garde portraits that pushed boundaries and celebrated the eccentric. The title Cottonmouth refers to the notorious side effect that often accompanies smoking weed, and I wanted the photos to emulate that feeling of being consumed by the high—sensual, dreamy, and a little bit surreal.
